Rhodescape was founded and is run by people who are passionate about their island, their people, their natural resources and committed to provide a tourism experience that contributes to the conservation of Rhodes ‘s beautiful natural resources as well as the socio-economic development and well being of local people. We believe that if we, as local people, don’t protect our resources, no one will.
We have invested in ecotourism, which gives the chance to experience the magic of Rhodes in an unforgettable way and to see for yourself the difference between massive and alternative tourism and experience what positive impact you make while traveling with us.
We want you to experience a different side of Rhodes, the one we local explorers enjoy, as we know the real beauty of our island.
DAY 1 : HORSE RIDING – SOUTHERN ISLAND
We will ride, swim, eat and learn about farming in the most fertile area of the island.
We start from Dimitris’ ranch, for an experience to remember. We ride beautiful horses in the mountain and on the beach . The best part is when we will ‘swim’ with the horses! We continue a little more to the south for some juice and a snack in a beach bar where we swim in crystal-clear waters.
In the afternoon we are visiting Arnitha where under the tall plane trees Andreas is waiting for us with food made of local products.
At the end of the day, we are meeting a local farmer who will help us collect fruit and maybe make our own cocktail over the lake of the village.
DAY 2 : SCUBA DIVING & HIKING – EASTERN ISLAND
This day offers a special experience everyone should try. In case it is your first scuba dive you shouldn’t worry. Professional trainers will help you spend precious underwater time. It is safe even for young children (at least 10 years old). If you are an experienced diver, let us organize a special dive for you.
We reach the eastern part of the island and after a short dive theory lesson and an explanation on how to use scuba equipment underwater, we get ready for a unique dive.
In the meantime, the members of our team prepare a barbeque for lunch in the diving center.
After a short time of relaxation we visit Lindos, where you are free to stroll in the village.
Next we head north to walk in the orange tree valley which ends to a beautiful location with water streams and plane trees.
This day ends with a visit to the ‘Association for the protection and safeguard of the small horse (pony) of Rhodes’ where you can see the Rhodian Horse which is in danger of extinction.
DAY 3 : CYCLING – CENTRAL ISLAND
You will get to know the special beauty of mountainous Rhodes, an area you might not have the chance to visit otherwise. It is an easy tour, for the whole family.
Starting our day with the bikes we cross a forest of pine, cypress trees and yews and we arrive in a beautiful lake with different kinds of birds. We snack and chat after a stroll around the lake to get to know each other better and be informed about the area.
Next, we head to Agios Isidoros, a mountainous village, where Petros and his family are expecting us. Here we taste the local cuisine. All food and wine are produced in the village.
In the afternoon, we visit the Monolithos castle (14th century) with the magical view and enjoy a swim in the beach under the castle away from the crowded summer beaches.
DAY 4 : CYCLING & HIKING – NORTHERN ISLAND
This tour combines hiking and cycling into forests one couldn’t expect to find on an island such as Rhodes. Almost everyone can follow.
We start by hiking along the lush vegetation river path in Petaloudes with orange trees, plane trees and maple trees. At the end of the trail we stop and have a ‘melekouni’ (a local sesame and honey sweet). The next trail is in a forest of oak trees, yews and cypress trees. We reach a chapel with a panoramic view to the west side of the island. Here we have some fruit and get ready to go on an enjoyable descent with our bikes through a thick forest of pines.
Our final stop is at another chapel to have a picnic in the forest.
The day ends on the famous and beautiful beach of Panagia Tsampika.
DAY 5 : HIKING – WESTERN ISLAND
On the western shore we will meet perhaps the wildest part of the island. A full day is ahead for both young and old who will enjoy the beauty of the area.
We go to Kritinia where in our first stop we can see the medieval castle of the village. We get to the castle through a pine forest. We have a short break with some fruit and water and continue to the castle, where Antonis is expecting us along with coffee, something to eat and some of the secrets of the Castle! We are now ready to swim at a small beach of wild beauty.
After so much hiking and swimming comes a delicious dinner. Giorgos is expecting us back at the village where he prepares really simple Greek cuisine from local products. From his tavern the view to the sea and the castle is rewarding.
