1) Beautiful old town of Luang Prabang

After consideration, the best way to visit interesting heritage buildings with traditional Lao architecture is on foot or bicycle because most hotels, restaurants, cafes are concentrated around the city and the streets are not busy. There are no modern buildings or any one house over 2 stories high so a pleasant, relaxing sightseeing tour can be expected.

2) Pak Ou Caves

Pak Ou Caves area – Buddhist caves. To reach the caves, you have to take a long journey of about 25 km along the Mekong River. Thousands of Buddha statues are placed inside the caves and it is a really amazing landscape to see.

3) Shopping at Luang Prabang markets

There are 2-3 bazaars held around Luang Prabang but the most famous one is the night market located on the centre line. Luang Prabang Night Market is crowded with silver souvenirs, traditional toys … This is also the ideal place for you to buy gifts for relatives and friends, I bought 2 rings with 2 elephant decorations for my two nieces, quite cheaply.

4) Village Whisky

The village is located on the way to the Pak Ou Caves. The famous specialty of this village is the local whiskey or types of wine made here which are infused with snakes and insects, then mixed with whiskey and sold in unique-shaped bottles. Famous Laos silk is also made here.

5) Mount Phousi

For a panoramic view of the city, we have climbed to the top of Mount Phousi, also known as hill Chomsy, (about 300 steps). On top of the mountain, there is a very beautiful temple. There are two ways to climb, one is away from the main streets in the city, the other is a trail behind Folk Museum. The most wonderful time to climb the mountain is late afternoon before sunset.

6) Temples and Shrines

There are more than 30 temples and shrines located around the city of Luang Prabang. Mai’s the most famous temple located on the main road of the city. There are also lots of religious schools for children.

7) Kuang Si Waterfall

Kuang Si Waterfall (also called Tat Kuang Kuang Xi or Si) is a complex of 3 towers, 30km from the centre of Luang Prabang . The highest tower fall is about 60 meters. The waterfall is very beautiful and spectacular, tumbling down into the natural green pools below. You can enjoy swimming in the lakes with an admission fee of about 30,000 kip ($ 3). Here you can visit a bear sanctuary with rare bears as well.
