The Poon Hill trek, also known as the Annapurna Sunrise trek, is a relatively easy walk meandering through villages and rhododendron forests. This is one of the most scenic teahouse treks in the Annapurna region. This trek showcases some of the best views of Annapurna and neighboring Himalayas especially from the Poon Hill. The added presence of rice terraces completes the picture making Poon Hill a photographer’s paradise. The real walking begins from Nayapul, we then trek to the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk and enjoy the ethnic hospitality along with the cultural magnificence of Gurung Museum.
The Poon Hill trek itinerary is designed for trekkers who want a less demanding, short and beautiful trek, particularly suitable for families with kids, wanting to enjoy the rural mountainside with up-close Himalayan views. However, if you would enjoy a longer trek in the Annapurna region then the Annapurna Sanctuary trek – 14 Days would be the best option. For trekkers who prefer a more demanding trek with the whole Annapurna circuit covered – 16 to 21 days time – the Annapurna Circuit Trek would be perfect.
What our clients are saying?
Our client from Netherlands Ms. Wendy Penning says: “Reliable and great service.”
In April the 5 day trekking Poon Hill done with two persons, a great experience, super Guide and carrier. E-mail contact in advance about the wishes, necessary papers and the surrounding area. Quick responses, expertise and ultimately was the trekking exactly as we wanted to. Price was very good compared to the trekking. In addition, paraglide arranged through Sisne Rover at a fine price. Also arranged through Sisne Rover transport from Pokhara to Chitwan, again perfectly arranged and at a good price. If we were going to Nepal again, I would definitely contact Sisne Rover.”
Also, another young couple:
We did a 5 day Poon Hill trek with 4 Social Workers and 8 teenagers from Holland. Along with us came 1 guide and 5 porters. The guide and porters were the best you could wish for. They took care of us like we were their family. We had fun with them and the guide told us a lot about the nature and the surroundings. I will definitely reccomend Sisne Rover to everyone who will visit Pokhara. Happy to come back maybe next year!”
Another client from Boston USA writes:
We stumbled upon Sisne Rover Trekking while walking in Lakeside Pokhara (and looking for a porter/guide). The representative in the office was knowledgeable (he was a long-time guide) and friendly, so we decided to book through them. We did not book a package, we just wanted to hire a combination porter/guide, i.e., someone who would carry one pack for us (we are a couple in our 50’s) and guide us through the 5 day Poon Hill trek (Nayapul to Ulleri to Ghorepani, to Tadapani, to Ghandruk, back to Nayapul). The rate per day they quoted was very good (better than most of the rates I got via email before arriving) and we let them arrange our TIMS and ACAP cards (which every trekker doing some or all of the Annapurna range need), as well as our transport (car) to and from Pokhara to Nayapul. We specifically asked for a porter/guide with decent English skills. When we returned to pick up our TIMS/ACAP permits, the guide they presented was very young and had almost no English. When we protested, they instantly got on the phone and arranged for a guide with better English skills who arrived 10 minutes later to meet us. His name was Amrit, and he was great – I recommend him highly. He carried a 40 liter Osprey pack for us and helped gently guide us along the way. No, you don’t necessarily need a guide to do the Poon hill trek, but it does give you confidence you are taking the right trails/paths at times – and he called ahead to reserve teahouse rooms for us to make sure the decent places were not sold out (April can be busy). That said, we did not have to stay in the teahouses he recommended, but there was no reason not to. The price to me was the same anyway. So, make sure you meet/interview your porter/guide or guide before you embark on your trek, no matter which agency you use. A mismatch could put a damper on your trip. Again, my wife and I unreservedly recommend Amrit through Sisne Rover Trekking. He is a seasoned guide, the price was right, and his English is good.”
It is evident that the Poon Hill Trek is one of the all time favourite and most popular short treks among visitors in Nepal. This trek is perfect for those looking for a short hike to get the experience of Nepal’s himalayas in a short period of time with easy physicality. We can always customise your trip as per your schedule, budget and preferences.
