Now in to its second year in the refurbished Shrewsbury Music Hall the Museum & Art Gallery tells the story of Shrewsbury and Shropshire from pre-history to the 20th century. Travel through time via the Roman, Medieval, Tudor, Stuart and Shropshire Galleries discovering the impact of invasions and inventions that make Shropshire special.  While its Palladian style frontage may be modest, the building inside is substantial and includes as its showpiece a 13th century merchant’s town house. The early Victorian Music Hall is a huge space full of treasures from mammoth bones and Coalport China to exhibits about lost country houses and costume.

On the ground floor is the town’s Visitor Information Centre with a host of ideas for exploring Shropshire including tickets for guided tours and boat trips on the River Severn. The Stop. Cafe Bar serves refreshments all day. Apart from the first floor galleries there is a special exhibition gallery with a new show every few months as well as the Balcony overlooking the Shropshire Gallery. As the birthplace of Charles Darwin Shrewsbury celebrates its famous son with contemporary art exhibits and portraits too.

The Museum & Art Gallery is open daily (except Mondays from October to Easter) from 10am.
