Open every day, free of charge, Mudchute Park and Farm is a fantastic place to get involved with animals and nature on the greener side of London’s trendy Docklands.  The Mudchute is a community charity, with a working farm, stables, a children’s nursery and a wide range of education activities.

History of Mudchute
The Mudchute Park & Farm was established by the local Island community. Originally a piece of derelict land created during the last century from the spoil of construction from dredging Millwall Dock. For decades, this hidden natural wilderness of flora and fauna remained untouched. However, in 1974 the site was earmarked by the Greater London Council for the construction of a high rise estate. The resulting public campaign against these plans reflected the affection that local people and those working on the Island felt for The Mudchute. Their success secured it as the “People’s Park” for the area.

In 1977 the Mudchute Association was formed to preserve and develop the area. Farm animals and horses were introduced, trees and plants were planted by generous volunteers and corporate teams, and the educational benefits of the area were also recognised. Local schools were encouraged to use the project to study the natural world on their doorsteps. Since the establishment of the Association, The Mudchute has steadily built a reputation for providing a variety of educational and leisure activities on a London-wide basis.

Where is Mudchute?
Mudchute Park and Farm is located in the middle of the Isle of Dogs. We are easily accessible by road from the A13 following the signs for the Isle of Dogs and then take the A1206 towards Island Gardens. Look out for the second Pier Street.
Alternatively take the environmentally friendly route on the Docklands Light Railway, alighting at Mudchute station and following the long path from the Park entrance to our horse-riding arena. The main courtyard containing the Mudchute Kitchen and the Farm entrance is next to the arena.

What it’s about
Care for the environment is at the heart of all we do at Mudchute. We have a wonderful 32 acre site which is open to the public and offers fantastic views across London.
The Mudchute Association is a registered charity in England and Wales (registered charity number 284907) and membership organisation. We are open all year, free of charge, but rely on your support to continue to do so. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
In partnership with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets we preserve the open space and make it available for events, community groups or just your simple family picnic. And where else do you get to share your lunch with friendly fur and feathered creatures.

Our Farm is one of the largest inner City Farms anywhere in Europe. We pride ourselves on our wonderful collection of British rare breeds and currently have over 100 animals and fowl on our farm! That’s one pretty big family to look after…

Throughout Mudchute Farm’s landscape and buildings you will be able to view our British rare breed animals, horses and ponies everywhere. The larger animals graze in the outer enclosures and fields, while the smaller and perhaps more cuddly, are kept just next to the main courtyard in ‘Pets Corner’. Please note that most of the animals go to bed at around 16:00hrs.

If you want to learn more about the Farm and the animals, please enquire about booking a Farm Tour. A member of the Farm Staff will take you around the Farm and explain more about our livestock and landscape. You will learn more about how the Farm works, get closer to some of the animals, and maybe even help feed some of them. Tours last about an hour. Animal encounter sessions can also be booked, in advance, as part of an event or party at Mudchute. Some of our friendliest small animals will be brought to your venue by Farm staff, who can explain more about them, while guests can get up close and stroke their fur or feathers.
