The Goat House, River Lodge or the Boar Hide – stay in the wilds of Portugal and get close to nature.
The Goat House sits half way up a hill along a stoney path, the uninhabited views stretch over to Spain. A double bed with two singles in a tight loft. The kitchen has a gas hob for the summer and a wood fired range for winter cooking. A compost toilet hides in the woodshed and an outdoor solar shower with those Spanish vistas. For summer cooking we have a gas hob inside and a solar oven out. Also outside is the barbecue, fuelled with our own charcoal. Winter sees the wood burning stove running which has hotplates and an oven. All fuel is provided.
The River lodge, downstream from the mill we’ve built this wooden deck overlooking the river. From the veranda you can gaze down at the otters and kingfishers. At night tuck up under the canvas to the sounds of water tumbling over the stones. It has a handy gas stove for morning coffees and light meals, a cob oven for grilling and bbq’s. Your own private river pool with rocks for lounging with the book. Private compost loo. Sleeping 2 it’s perfect for the creation of little ones.
Finally the Boar Hide is open. We’ve spent 6 years trying to rid our land of these destructive creatures. Then jokingly I said we’d be better off building a hide and charging people to watch them. So we have and here it is. We worked throughout the day stopping only for tea, coffee, a bit of lunch and a siesta. And here’s the result. A 4 single bed hide with lounge, dining areas inside and out, a shower, compost loo and river access (outside). Open the enormous shutters, lay some bait on the terrace beneath you and wait. We get nightly visits from the boar so you shouldn’t have to wait long.
The choice is yours at Pego Ferreiro so come visit and you can pick up some of our delicious olive oil to take away with you too!
